A few days ago, my Twitter feed alerted me that the rumors of an all-female Ghostbusters 3 was pretty much a go. Directed by Paul Feig — who has done right with the great Bridesmaids and The Heat (one of my favorite movies of 2013) — the most recent news said that Katie Dippold, who just finished writing The Heat sequel (please say the tagline is: EVEN HOTTER AND IT’S NOT THE HUMIDITY), is on the team to write the script.

Now news of a potential Ghostbuster sequel isn’t anything new — in fact rumors of the third movie showed up as soon as the receipts for the second movie showed major dollars. But the news tweeted by Feig has been some of the most promising stuff to date. I suspect that script is going to be some of the most guarded stuff ever, but like a lot of people, I have a list of things I’d like to see:
I’d like for the movie not to be a hardcore reboot with women playing genderbent versions of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddmore. I would love an all-women Ghostbusters team in a universe that includes Ghostbusters franchises around New York City. The beauty of that is that I could see Winston as the CEO of Ghostbusters Inc. with Ray as the head of Research and Development (maybe with a nice picture of Harold Ramis in the background as a hat-tip to him). And that just opens up the potential for some great comedy between the old and new generations — a handing off of the baton if you will.
I want Oscar, Dana’s son to come back, especially since Sigourney Weaver asked for it. I would love it even more if he was in the Janine Melnitz role as dispatcher/secretary.
Everyone has talked casting with names like Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Emma Stone and other goddesses off comedy being tossed about. Honestly, I figure no matter what happens, people are going to be disappointed and mad because the cast is never gonna match what’s in their head. I’ve seen so many interesting and fantastic fandom casting ideas that really, I’m gonna be happy no matter what.
Nicki Minaj better do a remix of the Ghostbusters song. Just not with Ariana Grande.
If there is a dude in the Dana Barrett role, I demand someone as hot as Sigourney Weaver. Not obvious comedy but the whole straight man role. I personally would love to see Idris Elba, but I think given his turn on The Office, he could probably pull off the straight man role in this movie.
What’s your Ghostbusters 3 wishlist?
